The proposal to increase the 2023 Hajj Travel Expenses (BPIH) was conveyed by the Minister of Religion (Menag), Yaqut Cholil Quomas, in a working meeting with Commission VIII DPR RI.

During the meeting, the Ministry of Religion together with Commission VIII of the DPR RI discussed the agenda for preparing for the 2023 Hajj pilgrimage.

Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Quomas said that the proposal was decided based on considerations to fulfill the principles of fairness and sustainability of Hajj funds.

"This proposal is based on considerations to fulfill the principles of justice and sustainability of Hajj funds," said Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Quomas, quoted from the kemenag.go.id website on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.

Yaqut added that BPIH's policy formulation had gone through a review process so that the components taken were a balance between the amount of the church's burden and the sustainability of the value of BPIH's benefit funds in the future.

Not only that, Bipih is also said to have to maintain the principle of istiha'ah and the liquidity of the organization of the pilgrimage for the following years.

Reducing benefit funds by up to 30 percent and leaving 70 percent as the responsibility of prospective pilgrims is said to be the most logical thing that will be maintained so that BPKH is not eroded.

In addition, it can be used to assess prospective pilgrims' ability to perform worship related to Hajj conditions, if they are able. (*)
